Find your voice. Join your community. Shape the future
Caucuses
Our caucuses are smaller, focused groups within University Democrats (UDems) that concentrate on specific identity groups or issues. These caucuses provide a platform for members to connect with others who share similar interests or concerns. They offeropportunities to engage in specialized discussions, advocacy, and activities tailored to particular topics or communities. Joining a caucus is a great way to get involved, meet like-minded individuals, and access exclusive events and resources. The structure of UDems' caucuses is similar to that of the Texas Democratic Party and the Democratic NationalCommittee, emphasizing the importance of diverse voices within the larger organization.
Caucus Chairs
Being a Caucus Chair in University Democrats is one of the most meaningful ways to lead. It’s not about having a title—it’s about building space for people to come together around something they care about. Whether that’s an issue like public education, labor rights, or climate justice, or a shared identity or experience, caucuses allow members to shape the work we do and the kind of community we are.
Chairs help guide that work. They organize events and conversations, bring people into the fold, and connect their efforts to the broader mission of UDem. Sometimes that looks like hosting a teach-in. Sometimes it’s helping members testify at the Capitol. Sometimes it’s just creating space to talk and build trust. It all matters. And you’re not doing it alone—the Vice President is there to support you and make sure you have what you need.
Caucuses are where new leaders step up and where new ideas take root. They’re how people find their place in this club, and how we stay grounded in what matters. They help us grow—not just in numbers, but in purpose.
If you’re interested in leading, we encourage you to explore the Caucus Framework, which outlines what chairs do, what support is available, and how to build something that lasts. You can also take a look at the current list of caucuses to see what’s already active. And if there’s something you care about that doesn’t have a home yet, we’d love for you to submit a Caucus Proposal Form and bring your idea to life.
UDem works best when people step forward not because they have to, but because they want to. If you’re thinking about starting a caucus, know that we’re excited to hear from you—and ready to help you make it happen.

Above, you'll find our current caucus chairs, leaders who are passionate about advocating for key issues and communities within our organization.
If there’s an identity-based or issue-focused caucus you believe deserves representation, and you have ideas on how to advocate for it, we encourage you to get involved! You can propose a new caucus by reaching out to our Vice President or by submitting a proposal through our Caucus Proposal Form, which is available in our Slack.
For more insight into how the caucus system operates, check out our Caucus Framework.
